A system built around how you actually work
Off-the-shelf software makes you work its way. When your organisation has a process that doesn’t fit, a form that nobody can find, or data scattered across spreadsheets and message threads, a small custom app is often simpler and cheaper than forcing a big product to do it. I build web apps for charities and small businesses that do one job well.
Based in Hebden Bridge, working with organisations across the UK.
Paper and PDF forms
Site checks, risk assessments, sign-in sheets and consent forms filled in on a phone, with a record you can find later.
The master spreadsheet
Client lists, bookings, equipment, volunteers: one place to add, update and search, without the version that someone overwrote.
WhatsApp as a system
Job updates, approvals and handovers with a proper trail of who did what and when.
Reports done by hand
Numbers for trustees, funders or clients pulled straight from the data, not rebuilt every month.
Sign-off and compliance records
Completed work, inspections and certificates recorded, signed and stored where an auditor or client can see them.
Portals for people outside your team
Volunteers, contractors or clients with their own login to submit, view or sign what they need, and nothing else.
Built to be run by you
Every app is built so your team can manage it day to day: add users, change form questions, export data, without needing me for every small change. It runs on reliable cloud hosting under your own accounts, with backups in place, so you own it and can take it elsewhere if you ever want to.
When a custom app is the right answer
It isn’t always. If a good product already does what you need, I’ll tell you and help you set it up instead.
A custom app makes sense when your process is specific to you, when the products you’ve tried force awkward workarounds, or when you’re paying per user for features you don’t use. The first conversation is about which of those applies.
How a build works
A free initial conversation. What the process is now, where it breaks, and who needs to use it.
A short spec in plain English. What the app will do, what it won’t, and roughly how long it will take.
A working version early. You try it on real work and we adjust before it’s finished.
Launch and handover. Your team trained, admin in your hands, and support if you want it.
Common questions
The things people usually ask before a build.
How long does a build take?
Most are weeks, not months. A single-purpose app for one process can be in use within a few weeks; something with several user types and reporting takes longer. You’ll have a clear estimate before anything starts.
Will our data be safe?
Yes. Individual logins, access limited to what each person needs, encrypted connections and regular backups are standard, and you keep control of the hosting accounts.
Can it work on phones?
Yes. Anything for staff or volunteers out and about is built to work properly on a phone first.
What happens if you’re not around?
It’s built with standard, well-documented tools and hosted on your own accounts, so another developer could pick it up. You’re not locked in to me.
